Cellulite Treatments & Fat Reduction
What is cellulite?
Although the presence of cellulite is normal and is experienced by over 90% of women at some point in their life, it can be frustrating to deal with. Cellulite is a term for the formation of lumps and dimples in the skin, comparable to an orange peel or cottage cheese, that usually affects the buttocks and thighs. It is caused by many factors including diet, lifestyle, hormones, and genetics. Untreated cellulite accumulates, and just as chronological aging never stops.
Fortunately, most types of cellulite can be remedied with appropriate treatments and products, but consistency and patience are required. There are three treatable components of cellulite: addressing the collagen, reducing the fat, and increasing circulation. This means that optimal treatment of cellulite will be a multifaceted approach combining several modalities.
Below are some of the most common and effective cellulite treatments that we have:
- Sculptra Injections:
Sculptra is a bio-stimulator that can be injected into dimples signaling for the body to produce collagen in the affected areas. It smooths out the dimples and creases associated with the cellulite, as well as builds volume to help treat the laxity of the skin. It typically requires several treatments spread out at least a month apart to accomplish optimal results with Sculptra. - Kybella Injections:
Kybella is a breakthrough non-surgical treatment for localized fat reduction. It employs micro-injections of very small doses of deoxycholic acid medication that have fat-burning qualities. While it is used most commonly for submental fullness, otherwise known as the double chin, Kybella is equally effective on any part of the body. It is best employed for cellulite that features fat protrusions on the buttocks, hips, and thigh areas. Several treatments at 4-6 weeks apart are recommended. - PDO Threads:
The treatment uses polydioxanone or PDO absorbable suture threads (similar to those used in cardiac surgery). The PDO threads are inserted under the skin in a mesh or lattice pattern, which acts as a “scaffold” to help hold the skin against the effects of gravity. Once the PDO threads are inserted under the skin, it prompts the body’s automatic response by stimulating collagen and elastin production. - Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF):
Another promising option is platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), which involves injecting plasma derived from your own blood into specific areas of the skin to promote collagen growth and tissue regeneration. PRF does not melt fat cells, however, it does create a healthier skin structure necessary to minimize the appearance of cellulite over the long term. PRF also consists of substances created by the body, which makes it a good complement to a more natural, less invasive approach to treating cellulite. PRF can reduce cellulite on the legs and buttocks, breaking down the orange-peel appearance of skin, and producing a smooth contour.
