Botox Treatment
What is Botox?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Briefly, it reduces muscle activity that causes those dreaded frown lines that form with age between the brows.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a treatment administered by a highly-skilled physician. It’s simple and isn’t surgical. Depending on the problem area(s), the results of Botox treatment can include:
- Smoothing of severe to moderate forehead lines, crow’s feet, and brow frown lines.
- Correction of nose bunny lines.
- Correction of face asymmetries, angry or tired appearance.
- Relief from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
- Relief from Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) symptoms include jaw clenching, lockjaw, ear, and facial pain, and difficulty chewing.
- A lip flip that relaxes the muscles the orbicularis oris muscle and creates the illusion of a fuller top lip
- Smoothing the appearance of the eye roll. This is puffiness around the eyes and we achieve this by relaxing the obicularis ocular muscle.
- Correction of the gummy smile. Botox reduces the strength of the muscles lifting the upper lip and it decreases the gum showing.
What’s Involved?
BOTOX Brooklyn only takes 10 minutes, and it only involves a couple of tiny injections around the problem area.
How Long Does The Treatment Last?
Noticeable improvement can be seen in just a few days. The longevity of the results varies but can last up to four months
Is The Treatment Safe?
The FDA approved BOTOX Cosmetic in 2002 for temporary treatment of severe to moderate brow frown lines in individuals 18 years old to 65 years old. In 2014, 6.7 million BOTOX procedures were done.
In the U.S., BOTOX Cosmetic was ranked by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery as the most popular doctor-administered aesthetic procedure for four years in a row.
Are There Any Side Effects?
The most common side effects are nausea and a temporary eyelid droop. Some patients may experience localized pain, inflammation, swelling, bleeding and/or bruising, tenderness, and redness.
ALS, myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, and certain other neuromuscular disorders may cause an increased risk of serious side effects. You should alert your Botox physician before the procedure if you have any neuromuscular disorder.
Is There Other Botulinum Toxin Products ?
We also offer Disport, Jeuveau which are very similar in action with Botox. Disport start working faster then Botox (3-5 days vs 5-7 days). Response to different botulinum toxins is individual. Some of my patients prefer one brand over another. We also offer new FDA approved neuromodulator Daxxify. While Botox injections last for about three months, Daxxify can sustain for six months and up to nine months in some patients.
Some key points to keep in mind before and after BOTOX include:
- Anesthesia isn’t used during the BOTOX procedure.
- A small amount of discomfort is to be expected, but your physician may numb the area with an anesthetic cream or cold compress prior to the injection to help keep the pain as minimal and brief as possible.
- There’s no downtime following BOTOX Brooklyn. You can immediately go back to school, work, or play.
- It may take a few days to see visible improvement of moderate to severe brow frown lines.
- Visible improvement does not translate to a radical or permanent change in your appearance; it’s not a new you that looks like you’ve had “work” done.
- Improvement results vary and can continue to progress over the subsequent month, and the longevity of the temporary treatment can last up to four months.
- Lines are not alleviated but rather reduced. Therefore, there is no fear that you won’t be able to frown; smile; and have a startled, surprised look after the treatment.
